Our Purpose and Goals

The purpose of BOTC is to encourage and provide for the training of dogs as a public service and to conduct obedience trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club.  The goal of the Club is the advancement and welfare of dogs and related activities.  Each year the Club allocates funds to be donated to worthy causes related to animal welfare, such as scholarships, research, and humane activities.

History of Our Club

The Bakersfieldl Obedience Training Club was organized in the fall of 1961 by a group of local people who realized the need in Kern County of a Club whose prinicpal interest would be in obedience training for dogs.  Charter Night for the Club was designated as January 16, 1962.  The Club was recognized by the American Kennel Club and the first licensed Obedience Trial was held at Beach Park in May 1966.  Each year, with the exception on 1972, BOTC has held an AKC licensed Trial.  In 2005, BOTC held their first licensed Rally Trial.

BOTC believes that obedience is the cornerstone for all dog sports.
The Bakersfield Obedience Training Club was incorporated by the State of California as a non-profit organization.
